I thought I was ready for dancing, and then all of a sudden, I fell asleep.
Red Thread...
There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.
This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

So Tired
After Katie's week-long fever that she had recently, it took her a long time to regain her normal energy. She would fall asleep in the strangest positions when you weren't even expecting it.

Another Song
After Katie mastered the Moana songs, she started learning some of the songs from the movie Trolls. One of her favorite songs on that movie is "Can't Stop the Feeling." Once again she listened to the song over and over as she learned more and more words. She is very focused when it comes to learning new songs.
My ring distracted me a little, but the song kept going!

Busy Toes
I love to watch Katie as she writes. As she concentrates on everything involved in writing, her toes are always very active.
Writing takes a lot of concentration!
Sometimes my toes have to think with...
…my very busy...
…mind!

Trying on a New Accessory
When we were out shopping, Katie decided to try on some bunny glasses. They were a little too big!
The nose and whiskers didn't hit me in quite the right spot!

What's That in the Sky?
After many, many rainy days this season, we actually had a day where the sun was out for awhile. Katie was so excited to be able to go out and get fresh air without getting wet. Of course, she had to find her bubbles.
Warm weather and bubbles just go hand in hand!
Sadie loves to catch my bubbles.
I try to blow a lot of bubbles to keep her happy.
She keeps her eye on them until she can eat them!
Ahhh…sun!

Always Busy
Katie is often busy drawing or writing. She loves doing both!
I think Bailey wanted to draw with me!

Puddles, Puddles, Puddles
We have had so much rain where we live. It has been rare to have a day without rain. We're all a bit tired of it, but Katie can get past it as soon as she puts on her rain boots. She goes from wanting the sun to being happy to have puddles to jump in.
Puddles are fun as soon as you can walk through them and jump through them without getting wet!

Singing
Katie loves learning new songs in her music class at school. She comes home and sings them and sings them.
This was one of my favorite songs I learned recently.

Surprise Snowflakes
A couple of weeks ago, we looked out the window and saw a surprise, late winter snow flurry. None of the snow stuck, but Katie was sure excited!
I was so happy to turn around and see all of the snowflakes in the window behind me!
I ran to put on my boots and coat, so I could go experience the snow before it ended!

Fun to Watch
It's always fun to watch your child learn new skills at school and decide to practice them for fun at home. Katie was so happy to find a composition book at home that she could use for extra writing at night.
I decided to write down everything I knew about birds!

A Gift
Katie was thrilled to get a package in the mail a couple of weeks ago. She opened it up and found one of her favorite things…a book. Jennifer's friend, Michele, had sent it to her, and she couldn't wait to read it!
Thanks for my book, Michele! I love it!

A New Recipe
One afternoon, Katie was hungry and decided to look in her Barbie cookbook for a recipe. She found one she couldn't wait to make because it looked like a cute bear.
I wanted to just look at the picture and recreate it!
I thought it looked pretty good.
Time to taste it!
Yum!

Playing a Game
Katie loves playing games. She especially like it when a game involves a spinner.
Even though my mom says to keep the spinner on the table, I still like to hold it up.
Oooooohhhh, I got a 6!

Another Lost Tooth
Katie lost her third tooth this week. She was so excited about the new gap in her mouth and even more excited that the tooth fairy would be visiting. Before she went to bed, she strategically placed her tooth in a place under her pillow where she thought she'd be able to catch the tooth fairy at work!
When my mom got home from work, I tried to show her my new gap, but...
…she needed to give me a little help for the gap to show.
I took good care of my tooth until the tooth fairy took it away.
The tooth fairy left me a new toothbrush and six coins! I tried to catch her, but I slept through the whole thing.
I thought it was $6, but we counted it, and it was 50 cents. I felt rich!

Sick
Katie has had a lot of sickness in her classroom, and unfortunately, she caught the bug. She spent a week with a high fever and a cough. She was so excited when her temperature returned to normal and she could go back to school.
I spent my week at home getting extra sleep.

Silly
One afternoon, Katie found a small, rubber piece in one of her toy sets. We don't know if it belonged with the toy set or if it had just been misplaced from whatever it belonged to, but Katie had a lot of fun with it. She quickly discovered that she could attach it to her face, and she loved to have it on her nose best of all.
I thought I looked extra silly with an extra long nose!
When I took it off, it only left a small red imprint!

Before Going to Bed
Before going to bed, Katie sometimes becomes a princess. She either acts out the princess' story, and she dances to the princess' song. On this night, Katie became Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She played the music and started dancing. In the middle of her dance, she said, "This is soft music, so I try to have soft dance moves." I asked her if she learned that from her dancing teacher, and she said, "No. I just know about it." She had some good soft dance moves.
Who wouldn't love music and dancing?

It's a Fact
At school, Katie has been learning about informational writing. She has been excited enough about it that she often likes to practice it before bedtime. One night, she decided to write about princesses. She has been holding onto a little bit of resentment because awhile ago, one of the boys in her class told her princesses weren't real. She tried to explain to him that they were and gave the example of Princess Charlotte. He didn't believe her, so he inspired her book.
This was the first page of my book. "Princesses are real!"

A New Recipe
One night, I went to get some things for dinner, and Katie chose to stay home with her Aunt Jennifer. Jennifer was working, and Katie decided to make a new recipe…her version of chocolate chip cookies. She was so incredibly proud of her work. When I got home, she gave me the recipe.
1. Mix some baking soda and water on a plate.
2. When it's smooth, scatter some chocolate chips on top.
3. Put the plate in the refrigerator so the cookie hardens.
After dinner, she couldn't wait to try her dessert. When she realized she couldn't pick the cookie up, she just put the plate to her face. It took a minute for the taste to get to her, but when it did, she ran as fast as she could to rinse out her mouth. When she returned, she announced that the cookie was yucky and decided to just pick off the chocolate chips to eat. After the first chocolate chip, it was another mad round of rinsing out her mouth. She decided that everything tasted yucky and would have to throw it away. I'm sure it hasn't slowed down her motivation to create new recipes though!

I was pretty proud of my chocolate chip cookie creation.
I couldn't wait to get the first taste, but when the taste sunk in, I had to rinse out my mouth.
I went to the table to try just one chocolate chip, but when I tasted it, I ran away to get water so fast that my picture was blurry!
It had such promise, but it just didn't pan out.

A Special Valentine
A few days after Valentine's Day, we picked up our mail after not getting it for a few days and found a Valentine for Katie. She was so excited to get a card from Aunt Jody in the mail!
I love to try to read the words on my cards by myself!
I couldn't believe that the card opened up to become a poster to color!
Thanks for my special Valentine, Aunt Jody!

Using Drawing Skills
Before going to bed, Katie likes bedtime stories, but she also likes to write and draw sometimes. I love to watch her drawing skills develop. It doesn't seem that long ago that she was just making scribbles.
Sometimes I like to write my numbers and turn the numbers into pictures.
I started thinking of Tamatoa, who I call Camatoa, from Moana and thought I would draw it for Aunt Jennifer.
This is what it looked like.
After that, I thought of Olaf and thought I would draw him for Grandma.
I thought he turned out pretty well.
Finally, I thought of my old friend, Winnie the Pooh.
His portrait was for my mom!

Love of a Song
Katie has always loved music, and she especially loves the music from Moana. When she finds a song that she particularly likes, she gets so focused on learning the entire song. She'll listen to it on her iPod, learning bit by bit. Once she has learned it, she sings it over and over.
When the Academy Awards came on this year, we had them on in the background while Katie played with her toys. As soon as "How Far I'll Go" came on, Katie stopped playing and joined in with the singing. She was so excited.

This is when I was learning my favorite song. I was almost there!
I couldn't believe when my favorite song came on the TV.

A Chair
We went to a store that was going out of business, and Katie loved looking at everything there. Eventually, we passed some fancy chairs that had been used in the store. Katie thought they looked like princess chairs even if they were a little dirty with some wear.
I could be happy with a chair like this!

Chef Katie
Katie was having an afternoon snack, and very quietly, she decided to create her own recipe. Afterward, she excitedly announced, "I made a healthy salad! We can all share it for dinner!"
I wasn't as excited as she was when I looked at it, but I was willing to eat some - one part at a time. Then as it got closer to dinner, Katie separated her "salad" into separate portions and realized that there wasn't very much for each person. In order to give everyone a full serving, she added water to it to make it a soup. So much for being willing to try something new. Even Katie had to admit that it no longer looked very appetizing. I give her credit for being creative though!
