Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Going to the Fair

My mom, Jennifer, Garyldine, and I took Katie to our county fair. It was a fun day!

It was chilly when we got to the fair, but it warmed up fast!

One of the first things we saw were the sea lions. We wanted to see their show, but it was too crowded.

I wanted my picture in front of the cows.

For some reason, I always love the chickens!

This was a funny chicken with curly feathers.

This was Grandma's favorite fluffy chicken!

I liked the Alpacas too.

Aunt Jennifer found a hay bale maze for me to go through.

I also got to ride my first pony. My pony's name was Dr. Pepper.

I can't stop talking about my pony ride.

We love to get our picture taken on this bench every year!

I went fishing with Aunt Jennifer!

I shocked everyone by choosing the car for my prize.

After lunch, I was very excited to go see the bubble show!

We saw lots of bubbles!

Some bubbles were even lit on fire!

At the end, they created lots of bubbles by using a fishing net. I loved it more than the adults!

Who doesn't get happy with bubbles?

I got a little wet!

I found a pretty horse.

Before we left, I got to go into a human-sized doll house. I met new friends and saw a kitchen just like mine!

I really liked all of the doll houses! I love the fair!

Ouch!

We were going out for a walk one evening. Just as we were leaving the house, Katie decided to hurry around the corner and hit her head on the corner of the house. Although she is always a pretty tough kid when she gets hurt, she cried a lot with this bump. It wasn't until later that we saw that Katie tore part of the wood off the corner of our house with her head. Ouch!

It hurts when your head collides with the corner of the house. Thank goodness for my penguin ice pack!

My bruise sort of gets hidden by my hair, but I don't like anyone to touch it!

Time for Tomatoes

We recently started getting a few red tomatoes on our plants. Katie was so excited to pick the first tomato. She asked to eat it right away, and ate the whole thing. She told me that she is going to eat every tomato that we pick. Perhaps she'll decide to share some of the tomatoes, but for now, she is enjoying them all herself!

The tomato was a lot easier to pick than my strawberries have been!

I thought that my tomato was prize-winning perfect!

It was yummy!

Choosing a Book

When Katie is in a bookstore, it brings back such good memories for me. Jennifer and I used to spend so much time in the bookstore. We'd find all the books we wanted, and then lay them out in front of us, and carefully examine the books to determine which one we wanted to buy. When Katie found some princess books, she did the same thing. She took the time to look through each one before deciding on the one book she wanted.

When you're only choosing one book, you have to take the time to make sure you're choosing the right one!

Going on a Hike

A couple of weeks ago, my mom, sister, and I decided to take Katie on a hike. We chose an easier hike that included a waterfall, which we knew Katie would like. Although this wasn't Katie's first hike, it was her first hike where she did 100% of the walking by herself. She did such a good job for an hour and a half walk that was sometimes steep.

I've discovered that Katie has a small fear of heights. When she is going uphill, she wants to always hold someone's hand, and she doesn't really like to see how high we've climbed. Ever since our hike, I've gone on lots of pretend hikes with Katie and her dolls!

We started our hike with a view of one waterfall.

I liked to look at the different plants on our hike.

It was exciting to find a big snail on our trail.

I saw a lot of "furry" trees. I liked them, but I wouldn't touch them when my mom offered to let me.

I got excited when I saw the first bridge coming up on our trail.

Bridges were the one spot that I didn't have to hold someone's hand.

We started to see a tall waterfall in the distance.

I really liked feeling the mist and the breeze that waterfalls create.

We found lots of interesting trees. Aunt Jennifer liked to explore them with me.

Flowers always interest me!

It's fun to just take the time to appreciate them!

Using a Knife

Katie has had plenty of practice using her Play-Doh knife in the past. When she decided she wanted to make a banana desert, I let her use a butter knife to cut up the bananas. She was shocked when I first told her she could cut the bananas, but she was happy. She was a very careful chef!

I couldn't believe that I got to hold the knife!

I sliced the bananas slowly and carefully.

Then I got to put the slices in the bag to freeze. I love cooking!

A New Hat

While I was out shopping one day, I found a hat that I couldn't resist getting for Katie. (One of these days, she'll outgrow the flower costume that she loves so much!)

Anything with Elsa on it is a big hit for me!

I never dreamed that I would have a long, blond braid.
