Do you like my tall ponytail, Aunt Jennifer?
Red Thread...
There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.
This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Sick
Katie had an awful cold last week. It came on fast and furious and came with a very yucky cough. To help with congestion, I rubbed some Mentholatum on her chest. It helped a lot, but her hair liked to get caught in it, and then her hair became greasy. Sometimes it felt like it was easiest to put her hair in a ponytail right on top of her head. She was game for anything. She doesn't like being sick, but she handles it as well as could be expected.

Princess Duck
Katie decided to put together another princess costume. She spent her usual time dancing and bowing. After awhile, she decided to share her sparkly, light-up costume with Duck. They both looked very royal!
My costume is complete with my beautiful dress, my wand, my light-up ring, my bracelet, and my tiara.
I'm feeling royal and important.
As a princess, I feel like it's important to show my subjects respect by bowing to them!
Duck looked so good in my ring, bracelet, and tiara that I soon made Duck a princess dress too!

Back to the Zoo
I had the day off work on Martin Luther King Day, so my mom and I decided to take Katie back to the zoo. Since it was a holiday and a sunny day, it was pretty crowded, but we still had fun.
When we left for the zoo, Katie insisted on taking her toy giraffe with her. She wanted her toy to see the real giraffes. She was so excited to get to their enclosure. She kept asking me if any of the giraffes would be upside down. Why? you may ask.
Lately Katie has been entranced by giraffes. One day, I searched You Tube videos, so I could show Katie some real giraffes. In my search, I found a video that has become one of Katie's favorites. To view it, click here.
Katie was okay to learn that giraffes at the zoo are not upside down.

I loved watching my pennies roll around and around on this. I was happy to donate pennies to the new elephant enclosure being built, but I was more happy to watch the pennies go in circles.
We were looking through dirty glass, but I got to see the baby lions. They already looked big!
I was so happy to reach the giraffes!
I just love to watch them.
I introduced my giraffe to his family.
Even though we've had flamingos at our zoo for awhile, this is the first time we've found them!
We had to say good-bye to the tiger before we left!

A Visit to the Movie Theater
My mom, Jennifer, and I took Katie to her first movie. We went to see Frozen. She did a good job staying quiet and staying pretty still, even though I could tell she wanted to get up and move part way through the show.
The one thing Katie insisted on having when she walked into the theater was popcorn, one of her favorite treats. We waited in the incredibly slow line for awhile before we convinced Katie she could have popcorn at home after the movie. We walked into the theater, Katie and got settled, and she said, "I want popcorn!" Aunt Jennifer went back out and the line was gone and she was back with the popcorn for a smiling toddler.
Katie was interested in watching a movie on such a large screen, but she seemed equally fascinated in looking behind her in the theater and seeing other people there. "Look! There's peoples up there! Look!"

First, I helped my mom buy the tickets.
I got to hand the tickets to the ticket collector myself!
We had to wait a long time for our popcorn!

Visiting the Ducks
It has been awhile since Katie got to visit her duck friends, so Jennifer and I took her after we got done shopping one afternoon. She always gets so excited to see them. Since we were there the last time, signs went up asking people not to feed the ducks. Katie didn't give them any real food, but she gathered leaves to give them because she thought they would like to eat them.
I hadn't even expected to see the ducks when we went out shopping.
I was so excited!
They were enjoying the sunny day.
I dropped a leaf in the water because I knew the ducks would love it!
I love, love, love leaves!

A New Place to Sit
When I organized Katie's room after Christmas, I had emptied out her old toy basket. She found it and decided it was perfect place to sit!
This is the perfect place to sit!
It's comfortable for coloring.
If I really want to relax, I can even put my feet up!

On the Phone
Katie loves everything about her kitchen, but it's really funny to watch her with her phone. She'll have long conversations, pausing to let the person on the other end talk. Most of the time she's on the phone, she's talking with Garyldine who is always out buying carrots for Sam and Jim - according to Katie. Garyldine has been getting carrots for days!
My phone is ringing!
Hi! What are you doing?
Garyldine is still looking for carrots.
