Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Working Hard

Katie loves to play with a toothbrush. She usually uses her play toothbrush to brush her own teeth or to brush her stuffed animals' teeth. However, she decided to use her toothbrush in another way one morning this week. (I guess it's time for a new play toothbrush!)

This is going to take forever to clean this floor, Pooh Bear!

This spot needs some special attention.

It's hard work, but I'm up for it!

Who Wants a Cracker?

One afternoon, Katie was munching on some saltine crackers. She decided that she would share a little with Chloe, but she wasn't happy with Chloe's level of cleanliness. She left some crumbs on the floor!

I have plenty of crackers!

You have to come over here if you want one, Chloe.

You're a pretty good eater.

I'll enjoy a bite for myself while you finish.

Chloe! You left crumbs on the floor!

Aren't you going to clean these up?

I'm not worried about the crumbs anymore!
I just saw Aunt Jennifer walk through the door!

Chloe's happy to see Jennifer too!

Back to the Zoo

The other day, Jennifer and I decided to take Katie back to the zoo. It was a nice trip. The zoo wasn't nearly as crowded as it is in the summer. Katie had a good view of a lot of the animals while we were there. It was disappointing that the polar bears and elephants weren't around since they are two of Katie's favorite animals, but we still had fun.

There was one funny thing that happened. Katie ended up being pretty brave with all of the animals, big and small. Even when they would walk right in front of her nose with only the glass barrier blocking them, she might step back for just a minute, but then she was fine. While we were looking at the lions, a fly flew by Katie and landed on the wall right next to her. Jennifer showed her the fly, and she turned around and ran and jumped into my arms. It was so funny to us that it was the fly that scared her! It was just like my mom's dog, Max who is petrified of flies!

I can see three black bears right now!

Here's one of the bears we saw!

We had a pretty close view of a bald eagle.

I'm watching the beavers with Aunt Jennifer!

Where are the polar bears?

I can't believe the polar bears aren't here!

It's fun to watch the funny-looking pigs!

Look! One of the pigs is moving!

I love having the sidewalk to myself!

My mom got down like this to take my picture, so I copied her.

I had to check this indoor room for elephants, but no elephants were here.

These crows made me laugh. Aunt Jennifer taught me to caw!

I have fun playing with these bells.

The drums are always fun too!

The cheetah walked right in front of me.

Here it comes again.

I'm looking for the lions!

I loved watching the fruit bats getting fed!

Look at the squirrel I found.

Here are some peanuts for you.

I wonder if I can take you home.

Helping Aunt Jennifer

It was time for Chloe to get brushed out again, and Katie was happy to help her Aunt Jennifer.  Just so Katie doesn't get hair caught in the brush, we put the brush in her hand upside down. It doesn't pull Chloe's hair, and Katie feels like she's really contributing!

I'm happy to help you, Aunt Jennifer!

I try to be really gentle when I brush Chloe.

When will this be over?

After Katie helped with Chloe, she made sure her baby was tucked in and ready for bed.

Are you warm enough?

Look What I Found

My mom bought some new storage containers for our kitchen last week, and it didn't take long for Katie to discover them!

Will anyone see me if I take this pile apart?

I keep finding new pieces.

Where's Katie?

Let Me Cover You Up

Katie loves to get in the towel drawer in the kitchen. She does various things with the towels - dusts the walls, cleans the furniture, gives them to people to wear as hats, and uses them as blankets. While Chloe was eating one day, Katie decided that she needed to be covered up.

This will keep you warm, Chloe!

You sure have a slippery back!

Maybe I need to hold the towel with one hand.

Is it falling?

Let me just stand back and admire my job!

I decided that you needed one more!

Is it Nap Time?

One morning, Katie was running around the house. She was playing and chatting up a storm. Then she got very quiet. I stood up to check on her, and I saw that she had very quickly gotten tired. I thought the place she had chosen to rest was funny.

I like to sleep mostly on the wood floor and halfway under the couch.
