Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

A St. Patrick's Day Card

Katie was so happy to get a St. Patrick's Day card in the mail right before the big holiday!

I love getting mail!

Thank you, Grammy Noreen and Grandpa Joe!

Katie's Book Recommendation #1

Katie was watching me work on her blog, and she asked me if she could help. When I asked her what she wanted to write about she said, "Let's write about the books! Then everyone can go read them and love them as much as me!" So every here and there, the blog will have "Katie's Book Recommendation," and she'll be the author of that posting. Below is her first recommendation.

I really like Sweet and Spooky Halloween. It reminds me of getting treats from people on Halloween. It's about Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, and Snow White. The princesses give out treats and get ready for Halloween. Aurora is getting ready for the special day. She will be at the castle but doesn't know what dress she is going to wear. My favorite page is the one that has Ariel, Flounder, Ariel's sisters, and the other sea creatures in their costumes. Ariel's beautiful dress is shimmering.

I love princess books!

This is my favorite page!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, 2016!

We have never done a lot for St. Patrick's Day, but Katie likes to find fun, green accessories for the day!

I loved my green hat!

Later, my mom was trying to get Grandma's picture, but I decided to pop into the picture too!

Bedtime Stories

Katie has started a new routine for her bedtime stories. Now, she likes to choose a picture book to hear. She follows that by hearing the next chapter in her chapter book. Then she chooses a book to read to me. She loves being in charge of the reading.

Even though I can't read all of the words yet,...

…I can tell the story really well!

Playing with Money

When it comes to money, I think Katie is similar to a lot of kids. She likes to play with it. She always has. It's fun to put it in her purses and take it out. It's fun to pass it out to others. It's fun to play games with it. It's fun to spend it.

Last month at school, Katie's class was focused on learning about money, and it re-energized her interest. For awhile, we were playing Katie's made-up money games all the time.

Do you want to play a money game?

I can identify all of the coins by name, but I'm still working on the value. Learning about money is fun!

A Picture for Grandpa

Katie decided to draw a picture for my dad. She usually likes to label the pictures with everyone's name. She tried to spell Grandpa's name twice, but she eventually asked how to spell it because she wanted it to be "perfect." To make it more special, she insisted on knowing how to spell "his real name." In the picture, she turned four of us into superheroes.

I gave Grandpa puffed sleeves like any good princess!

Writing

Katie really enjoys her independent writing lately. In the past, she has enjoyed writing but has always wanted help with spelling. Now, she often wants to try things on her own. I love hearing her try to sound out her words and get her letters on paper.

It's fun to write letters for people you love!
