Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Katie's Sunday

After Katie's morning stories, getting dressed for the day, a short nap, and a visit from Grandpa, Katie settled down to watch her favorite YouTube video.

That Wasn't Long…What's Next?

After the music enjoyment, Katie spent some time playing the piano.

Then Katie stopped to read to her baby.

Afterward, Katie took Chloe out for some fresh air.

Time to Go In

Katie wanted more time outside, so we went out to our back deck.

Finally, while I made dinner, Jennifer took Katie on a short walk by our house. Katie thought it was pretty funny to look up and see Chloe on the deck.

Music is the Best

Katie has loved music from the time I met her. She seems to like every kind of music, but she has favorites here and there. She has always loved Elmo.

When she's enjoying music, she loves to dance along. Sometimes her dance is a head nod, sometimes it's a hand clap, and sometimes its a full-out dance. I've tried to capture it on video, but she seems to know when the camera is facing her and holds back.

Katie gets to watch some of her favorite music on YouTube clips. Presently, she loves two singers with all of her heart…John Denver and Colm Wilkinson. Her heart skips a beat when their music starts up, and the dancing or just quiet smiling starts.

Since I don't have a good video of the dancing, I'll post a video of her starting to dance with Elmo and also links to Katie's two favorite YouTube videos.

Out Shopping

The other night, my mom, Jennifer, and I took Katie shopping at the mall. Eventually we let her out of her stroller because she sometimes likes to hold our hand and walk with us instead of riding. We quickly discovered that Katie has become a lot more independent since the last time we took her shopping. She wanted no more of that hand-holding stuff! She wanted to walk on her own.  We followed her as she took us on a very interesting path through the store.

Our last stop was at Barnes & Noble. Jennifer took Katie to the kids' section to look around while I looked in the other part of the store. Katie discovered the story area, and she loved the fact that the furniture was just her size.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day, and Happy Birthday to Aunt Jeanne!

I tried to get a nice picture of Katie this morning for St. Patrick's Day. She had other ideas. She wanted to take a nap. When I didn't put my camera down, she decided to take matters into her own hands!

Now What?

I was playing with Katie the other night, and she got herself into an awkward position. She wasn't quite sure what to do with herself.  At first, she seemed a little worried, but then she burst out laughing. After laughing with her for a while, I decided to rescue her!

Jennifer's Day With Katie

Jennifer took a day off this week and kept Katie busy all day. Jennifer started her day out with coffee. Katie watched Jennifer and had to copy her actions with the empty cup. They did some playing together. Katie figured out how to get behind one of the dining room chairs in the corner of the room but wasn't quite sure how to get back out.

Jennifer also took the time to take a video of Katie cleaning the couch and her shoe with a baby wipe. Her favorite part of the video is the very end. No, Katie wasn't hurt. She didn't even cry.

Ahhh…nothing beats coffee in the morning!

Now how do I get out?

I Can Pretend to Sneeze!

The other day, Katie had a baby wipe, and she decided to put it up to her nose like she was wiping it. Soon after, she started bending her head forward. We quickly realized she was pretending to sneeze.  Since then, we've had several pretend sneezing fits from the little actress!

Reading Out Loud

Katie still enjoys her books every day. Before she hears the books from me, she very often looks carefully through the books pointing out familiar things to her. She loves to "read" her Bear books out loud though.  She'll usually takes that book away to a quiet place or next to Chloe and reads the book out loud by herself.

Finding the Ducks

Katie learned to quack a long time ago. However, she doesn't know the difference between a duck or any other bird, so she quacks at every bird. A few days ago, she went to see some real ducks. She observed them quietly for awhile, but quickly started quacking with the ducks.

Chasing

As I've written many times, Katie loves Chloe and Bingle, the dog and cat. Katie has decided it's fun to chase the pets as she squeals and laughs at them. They, on the other hand, don't like it at all! They like it much better when she feeds them. One day after lunch, Katie had fun chasing Bingle. I can't figure out why Bingle wasn't having as much fun!

A Fun Day for Katie

Katie has discovered our lower cupboards in the kitchen. It's just about time for cabinet locks, but so far, she has stayed away from anything dangerous. Her favorite cupboard is the one where we keep our canned foods.  Katie has had lots of practice removing the food. She's learning to put it back herself. Sometimes that works better than other times.
