Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

More Blackberry Fun

I went out with Jennifer to do some more blackberry picking this week. I was in charge of Katie and Chloe, so Jennifer did 99% of the blackberry picking while I pointed at spots that looked like they had lots of good berries. I'm sure Jennifer appreciated my helpful advice!

Katie had fun watching the berries being picked and enjoying the outdoors and talked and sang to Jennifer the whole time we were out there.

Katie had three discoveries on the walk:
1. Blackberry bushes are sharp and prickly. They scratch her arms, and they tear out Chloe's hair when she gets stuck in them.
2. Chloe gets messy when she walks through weeds.
3. Her Aunt Jennifer is willing to climb up a lot higher and a lot farther back into the blackberry bushes than her mom.
4. Snakes can move pretty fast and make a nice hissing sound.

I see you Aunt Jennifer! Don't get poked by the branches!

Chloe's Back after Going through the Weeds

Oh my gosh! Look at Chloe's back!

I can't believe how high Aunt Jennifer went. I wish I could go up there.

This is the first snake I have ever seen!

Look at it move! Hiss! Hiss!

Where Did Our Hot Weather Go?

After our stretch of hot weather, it cooled down considerably this week and the temperatures have been in the low to mid 70s. Since it hasn't been warm enough for Katie to swim, I emptied her pool and put it close to the front door. When I took Katie out for a walk, she found the pool.

Something feels different about this pool!

Looking Out for her Friend

One morning this week after Katie had had her breakfast, she decided to make Winnie the Pooh breakfast. She got her spoon and cup from a tea set she had gotten at the dentist and found a comfortable spot to sit with her friend.

I'll mix this up just right for you!

You can't have any of this. It's for Winnie!

A few days later, Katie helped Winnie the Pooh get dressed.

Let me help you get your foot in this sandal.

Ahhh…perfect fit!

The Many Ways Katie Plays

Last night, I was alone with Katie. I just let her play while I chased her with the camera. She is a very busy girl!

She began the night with her bubble bottle. As previously posted, Katie loves bubbles. She wanted to be around bubbles almost the whole day through, so I gave her an empty bubble bottle, and that semi-satisfies her bubble need while she blows imaginary bubbles. She was using her bottle in a different way last night though. The bottle was a paint can, and the wand was a paintbrush. I guess the next time we have to paint, we'll have a helper with Katie!

This wall will look so much better after I paint it!

I better reach up high too.

A good painter always checks her work!

Hey, how did you get up there?

After painting, I tried to encourage Katie to play with her dolls. So far, she hasn't had a strong interest in her dolls. She much prefers her stuffed animals. I just thought I'd push her interest along by putting her doll in her arms last night.

Hmmm…I wonder why my mom put you here?

I like your hands.

Maybe you're okay.

You know you're in my chair.

My mom thought I was going to play with this doll, but I just want to see if she has a belly button.

Strange…no belly button.

I think I'll put the doll away and get my bunny instead.

After we played with the dolls and the bunny, Katie got to play one of her favorite all time games - Chase.  I chased her around the house as she ran away from me.

You caught me!

Let's go again!

Katie then decided to go back to her bubble bottle. This time she was back to blowing imaginary bubbles.

Did you see that bubble I just blew? Guess who it landed on?

It landed on Chloe!

Here's another one, Chloe!

You can sit here, Mom!

Right here!

Katie then got distracted by a large bird that flew by our window. I caught a picture of it after it landed on a post.

There's a bird up there! Quack, quack!

Did you see that bird?

We ended our night of play with books. Katie wanted to read the books to me, so she pulled her chair up close and started reading.

This is a fun book to read!

Look at this pretty jewelry box!

Playing after Dinner

My family and I had dinner together this weekend to celebrate my birthday a few days early. After dinner, Katie had fun playing.

Peek-a-boo, Aunt Jennifer! Here I am! Look at me!

She looked!

Anyone want to play ball?

Oops…the ball rolled right under Chloe.

I like to watch Aunt Jennifer dribble the ball!

It's so funny when the ball rolls across the floor!

I think it's time to put the camera away. Now. Please.

The Sunday Paper

Before anyone could read the newspaper on Sunday, Katie took it to the floor to read.  She's so funny to watch with a paper. She has very believable expressions on her face. She sees my mom reading the paper a lot, so sometimes Katie will look down her nose as if she's looking through a pair of bifocals like my mom wears.  She was most excited to find an advertisement in the paper that had a pictures of cows and a horse!

I'm trying to turn this the right way!

Making my Wish List for my birthday.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe this story!

Do you want to look at the toys?

Enjoying my reading time.

This paper is so heavy, Grandma! (She was grunting as she carried it to the couch.)

We're going to shop for groceries, Winnie.

Oooohhhh…I found some sparkly jewelry!

One more story to read before I'll give you the paper.

Katie's Favorite Part of the Paper

These comics are pretty funny, Grandma!
