Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Looking for a Path

When my sister and I went on our last hike, we couldn't find the very last part of our path, so we walked the last few miles along the road. We decided to drive back to that part of the hike to see if we could find the path for the next time we went there.

Aunt Jennifer still didn't find the path, but it was still pretty looking for it!

Getting Ready for Dance Season

Katie is so excited to go back to in-person dance. Her dance studio is being so careful, and they are only having 5 students in person, and everyone will be wearing masks. She decided to see if she could still do her dancing stretch to see if she was ready for class.

It's easy! You just have to stretch your legs up to your head!

So Excited

Katie has been waiting all summer to find out who her next teacher would be. Yesterday, she finally found out, and you might say she was a little excited!

I was so happy to hear who my teacher was that I couldn't stop jumping up and down and screaming!

We always find something to laugh at!

Getting Bigger

My sister, Jennifer, has small hands, so Katie is very excited that she's about to pass up Jennifer soon.

I knew my hand was getting close to the same size as Jennifer's hand.

I'm almost ready to pass her up!

A Favorite Treat

I had gone into the school for some of our beginning-of-the-year meetings, and I picked up a snack that I shared with Katie. She was pretty happy about it.

Skinny Pop is one of my favorite treats!

You might as well get out to enjoy the summer weather while we have it!

I love the nice weather!

Seeing a Friend

Katie has really been missing her friends, so she was so happy when Kathy suggested an outside walk with Kai with everyone wearing masks. It put such a big smile on her face that still hasn't gone away!

I was so happy to see Kai again!

We had a lot to catch up on because we hadn't seen each other since January.

Thanks for inviting me! I loved it!

A Tooth is Out

When Katie went to the orthodontist, he told Katie that all three remaining baby teeth on the top were loose and would come out soon. The first of those three came out yesterday.

My tooth was so loose that I barely felt it when it came out!

It's always fun to lose a tooth.

Time to Appreciate the Simple Things

Sometimes you just have to be grateful for the simple beauty that surrounds us.

I love wildflowers!

A Bead Barrier

Katie built a barrier with cups and then tested the barrier's strength by seeing how many beads she could put in the middle without any leaking out. She was shocked at how many beads she could get in there.

I kept adding beads and then moved them around a bit to see if any leaked out of my barrier.

An Evening Stroll

Not everyone goes out walking in a nightgown, but why not?

Who will know if I'm out in my nightgown?

Up on a Mountain

Last year my sister, Jennifer, and I took Katie on our favorite hike. However, the day we chose to go was a cloudy day. When we got to the top of the mountain, we were standing in the cloud, and you couldn't even see the edge of the mountain. This year, we took her on a sunny day, where she could get the real view at the mountain top. It was beautiful - even more beautiful than the pictures show.

One of the best memories of the hike that we had is one without pictures. There was one muddy stretch of the walk that was only about six or eight feet long. When Katie was headed back, she was leading. She wasn't quite sure where to step with mud all over. Since she took too long deciding, her feet started to sink into the mud, and when she tried to step out, her foot came out of her shoe. Jennifer reached down to rescue her shoe, and while Katie tried to keep her balance on one foot, her walking stick started moving back and forth, which hit Jennifer in the head over and over while she tried to get the shoe. I knew I wanted pictures but was laughing too hard to take them. In the end, we got through the mud, Katie learned that she couldn't take time to think when she's in wet mud, and Katie had muddy shoes and socks. It was all worth the laughter that came out of it!

When we first got out of the car, I was feeling carsick from the curvy roads, but getting out into the fresh air cured it.

Before long, I had a smile on my face!

My mom and I were often behind Aunt Jennifer!

There were so many butterflies near the top of the mountain!

This was the last stretch up before reaching the top.

When we got to the top, we rested while we ate lunch and enjoyed the view.

We could see five mountain tops from where we were.

The mountains that were further away didn't show up as clearly in the pictures, but they were easy to see in person.

We had the mountain top to ourself for most of our hike, but we had company at the end, so the masks came out.

Our hike started at the lake that was way below us.

We live in a pretty place!

This was a much better view this year over last year!

Playing Charades

Katie loves to play charades lately. I'm not very good at it, but she has fun!

This has four words!

A Comfy Cat Bed

Katie has a little trunk in her room which has become the perfect cat bed.

It's nice that the lid stays up on the trunk, so I could turn this into a tent bed. General Washington loves it!

Looking for a Plant

A couple of weeks ago, we tried an experiment. Would a plant grow if we planted a sliced tomato? So far, no.

I keep watering the seeds just in case the plant starts growing.

A Fun Comic Book

My sister bought Katie a fun comic book full of princess humor and adventure.

Aunt Jennifer knows just what I like!

A Trip to the Orthodontist

Everything feels different right now - even a trip to the orthodontist. Katie's orthodontist is doing a great job with safety measures. We were so happy to hear that everything was right on track for her.

Just a little adjustment to my retainer and a quick mouth exam, and I am done for another six months!

Just Having Fun

It's always fun to see kids enjoying their toys!

I think it's best to spread my toys out, so I can see everything!

The Farmer's Market

Ever since March, we have tried really hard to stay out of public places as much as we can. Last weekend though, we decided to try the Farmer's Market. We were in and out quickly, but Katie was able to get some of the peaches that she loves.

We have never had such a quick visit to the Farmer's Market.

Walking the Dogs

Katie decided to come with us to walk the dogs, and she enjoyed being in charge of Bailey and Sophie again.

Even though Bailey and Sophie are small, they are strong when they get together!

Trying to Grow a Plant

My sister had read on the internet that you could slice a tomato and plant it, and the seeds would grow into a plant. Sounded like a plan to us! Katie was excited to do some planting and treat this like a science experiment. We decided to try this in a small pot, and then if we get plants, we'll transfer them to a bigger pot.

First, I pot some soil in the pot.
Once the sliced tomatoes we're in it, I covered them with soil.
I couldn't find our watering can, so I just watered them some with our pitcher. I hope some plants grow!

Hearing from a Friend

It's always a good day when you hear from a friend!

I couldn't wait to get home to read my card from Kai!

A Wild Blackberry Pie

Katie wanted to try to make a pie out of the berries we picked, so we looked up a recipe and took a stab at it.

My mom and I worked on the filling, while Grandma worked on the crust.
We have fun when we cook together!
When the pie got done, I decided to try a bite. First I had to cool it off.
I decided that I liked the fresh berries better, but it was fun to bake a pie!

Just One Flower

When Katie got inside, she wanted to use just one of her daisies to put in her hair.
It made me happy to have a flower in my hair.

Flowers and Berries

Sometimes while I pick blackberries, Katie picks flowers because they make her happy! She also prefers to do the flower picking because there are no thorns involved with the flowers.

I found some daisies close to the blackberries.

The fact that they were in the shade made them even better.

They're such happy flowers!

What's better than happy flowers and yummy berries?
