Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Time to Play

It's always important to take time to play within your day!

I love to play with these teeny, tiny toys!

A Return Letter

Katie was so happy to get a return letter from her friend that had agreed to be pen pals.

I was so happy to see the letter addressed to me!

When I opened it up, I saw that she had drawn me a cute picture!

Of course I had to read the letter before I got home!

Word of the Day

The next day, we went on a walk, and Katie thought of the next word she wanted to leave in the neighborhood.

It's pretty fast to build words with sticks.

Sometimes I have to break sticks, but sometimes I can find them in the shape of a letter!

Try to find "joy" in your life!

Entertaining the Cats

While Katie has been home full time, she has taken the time every day to play with the cats and give them exercise.

The cats take turns chasing the feather! Mr. Limpet got it this time!

General Washington was getting ready for his turn!

I love my cats!

Another Word of the Day

Katie decided she wanted to build her next word out of small rocks she found. Of course, she chose a long word to build, so it took awhile. It was a good word though!

I thought this was a good word for lots of reasons!

Time Together

We have been enjoying our walks a lot since schools were closed. It's a nice time to get away from computers and enjoy fresh air.

When we walk, we talk and laugh a lot.

Tap, Tap, Tappity Tap

Katie was so excited when we were out on a walk to spot two woodpeckers. She heard the tapping sounds first and then saw them.

My mom was glad the woodpeckers weren't pecking on our house!

Another Pen Pal

In addition to being pen pals with one of her friends from school, Katie is also pen pals with one of the teachers at school. It makes her so happy!

This was the first postcard I received from Mrs. Davis. I wrote back right away!

Another Walk, Another Word

On our next walk, Katie found another building material to make a word for the neighborhood.

It's pretty easy to make words out of sticks.

Just spreading some kindness.

We try to keep smiling!

Finding Beauty & Spreading Positivity

Katie has continued to look for beauty when we are out on our walks, but she decided she wanted to share words of positivity with the neighborhood. She focuses on one word a day.

I love to see all of the daffodils coming up!

I don't always pay close attention to all of the plants and bushes, but when I do, I think they're beautiful!

These flowers are my favorite color!

The flowers bring me joy!

I decided to use objects found in nature to build words of positivity to leave for the neighborhood.

I knew it wouldn't last forever, but I hoped it would last long enough for at least one person to see it.

It makes me feel happy to do something that is positive.

What's your positive word of the day?

Keeping in Touch

When Katie found out that she'd be isolated in her own space for awhile, she was determined to keep in touch with her friends. Right away, she became pen pals with one of her favorite friends. I love to watch her excitement about this.

As soon as I found out that I could be pen pals with my friend, I wrote her a letter.

It was so exciting to mail the first letter!

Encouraging Others

The current remote learning system is challenging for all of us, but we try to all encourage each other. Katie sometimes writes encouraging notes that I can post to my students.

I wrote a note for the kindergarten kids.

I hope it's fun for them.

An Easter Surprise

Katie was so happy to see my friend, Noreen's, handwriting on the envelope in the mailbox. She loves hearing from her!

I thought this was the cutest card ever, Grammy Noreen!

I also loved the stickers you sent! I hope you had a Happy Easter!

What's Taking So Long?

Sometimes when I go on a walk with Katie, she runs up ahead a bit, and then she can't figure out what takes me so long to catch up.

I just decided to rest at the corner like this while I waited for my mom to catch up.

Frozen Artwork and Play

After Katie helped me develop some academic activities around the Frozen theme, she completed the artwork we found and then had fun playing with her snow slime.

The artwork we found was a cut and paste activity.

I decided to combine my Frozen Legos with my snow slime.

The characters had fun playing in the snow.

It was fun!

An Idea for the Kinder Kids

Katie loves helping me come up with ideas for the kindergarten kids at home. Before remote learning officially began here, she helped me think of activities they could be doing. She came up with lessons with a Frozen theme, and besides the academic activities, she thought they could make snow slime. Of course, she made some to make sure it worked.

It's always easier to start slime with a glue base.

Once I mixed everything, I could stretch my slime a long way!

After, it was time to play!

Happy Easter, 2020!

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter yesterday. Katie had a good one!

I started collecting eggs as soon as I left my room, and I saw something in the bathroom!

Grandma had gotten me this cute llama for Easter, and my mom had accidentally left it in the bathroom.

The eggs that are left upstairs always lead to one present. This year I found a Lego set!

My Easter basket was mostly filled with games. I had wanted this video game to play with Aunt Jennifer!

What is Easter without something cuddly?

This is my favorite Easter candy, and I always dream of getting one of these golden bunnies!

I also got a fun llama journal. It has borders on each page that I can color, but it's blank in the middle of the pages, so I can draw or write!

My other book is a "Would You Rather?" book. I love asking "Would You Rather?" questions.

This game is called Kanoodle. One of my friends had it, and I can even take it on car trips.

My last game was called Quick Cups. I had never heard of it, but I was excited to try it.

Grandma and I tried the game out right away!

I decided to still wear an Easter dress even though we didn't have to go anywhere special. I just love dressing up for any occasion!

Holidays make me happy!

Later I opened up a special present from my mom. She said that it wasn't a normal present. It was just because of what is happening this year.

I got my very own Chromebook! My mom thought we could share her Chromebook, but she discovered that one Chromebook wasn't enough for her to teach kindergarten and for me to do my third grade work.

Of course I had to go on an Easter egg hunt later. It doesn't seem like Easter if I don't!

It's nice when you can focus on something fun!

I collected lots of eggs.

It was a beautiful day for being outside!

After dinner, we ended our celebration by having the whole family play my game!
Happy Easter!
