Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

President's Day

Ever since Katie was little, she has always loved to celebrate President's Day because of her interest in presidents. This year we celebrated with books again.

I got a book about the presidents, and I chose to cover up one president. My first question was, "Why are Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton on the cover?" (Good question, Katie!)

I also got a book to learn more about the states that the presidents lead.

An Evening Routine

General Washington loves to find Katie in the evening for his petting time.

General Washington's tail always ends up in my face when he's happy.

Unexpected

Last week, we had a snow storm. We knew there was a chance of snow, but we thought nothing much would come of it. We were wrong. We ended up getting about ten inches of snow, which was huge for our area.

This was our deck by nighttime, and it was still snowing. We don't get storms like this.

Twelve Years Ago

Twelve years ago today was the magical day that I finally received my referral from China. After such a long wait, my adoption agency called to let me know that I had been matched with a baby in China and that I would be traveling to complete my adoption in May. It's funny how with certain moments in time you can still remember the small actions and all the feelings that went with them.

I felt so lucky to be matched with the perfect baby for me!

A Concert

Katie is very talented at quickly memorizing music and lyrics. She is quite opposite of me in that way. The other night she gave me a musical concert with a selection from Hamilton, Encanto, and some current songs she heard at her dance last week.

My concert lasted for about an hour. I love music!

A Seed Necklace

Katie is walking around these days with a seed necklace as part of a science project. Each student created a seed necklace with seeds and a damp cotton ball. They wear them around their necks and wait for change.

This was my necklace on day one.

A Valentine Gift

All Katie wanted for Valentine's Day this year was a new Squishmallow. That was easy.

These are so comfy to cuddle with!

"Stickers"

Katie had the chance to create sticker art to put into her school yearbook. She decided to go with a more simple theme.

I liked how my cat and mushroom turned out.

One Benefit

One benefit of a sore throat is getting cold treats!

Aunt Jennifer found fudge bars for me, which make my throat a little less sore.

Getting Checked Out

When Katie woke up the next day and still had a fever and a sore throat, I took her to Urgent Care to get a strep test since Strep Throat is spreading around the community right now. Of course, it was one of the busiest days at Urgent Care that we had ever experienced. While we were there, three people were taken away in ambulances. It made me grateful that we didn't need an ambulance, but Katie didn't appreciate it as much because she felt gross.

I had a negative Covid test at home, and my strep test turned out negative too. According to what we were told, it was probably just a viral throat infection.

The Day After

Katie had such a good time at her dance. It sounds like she danced and sang straight for two hours. Then the next day, she wasn't feeling great. She said she thought she felt good enough for school. She made it through the day, but was feeling pretty cruddy by the end of the school day. She was full of body aches and had a fever.

It didn't seem fair to feel like this after I had so much fun the night before.

Ready to Go!

Before I knew it, Katie was ready to go to her first dance.

I couldn't wait to meet my two friends and see what the dance was all about!

A Daily Recap

Whenever my sister, Jennifer, comes over, Katie is a non-stop talker. She likes to tell Jennifer every detail of her day.

I like to show Aunt Jennifer pictures from my lunch to go along with my stories!

Keeping an Eye on Katie

Mr. Limpet is always aware of where Katie is.

Mr. Limpet was sitting with my mom but watching me.

Peanut Butter Cookies

Every year during the Christmas season, we make peanut butter cookies and think of my dad. We used to make him his favorite cookies (peanut butter) every Christmas as a gift. This year, we missed making the cookies at Christmas, but we still wanted to make them.

My favorite job with the cookies is stamping them with a fork.

Oh, the Bookstore!

With the way Katie is reading, we should have stock in Barnes & Noble. It would be nice if the library had the books that she's reading, but they are very limited in the Manga series she likes. However, I can't complain too much about supporting a reading habit.

I love bookstore days!

Time with Friends

Katie was very excited to go to the mall with two of her friends. Believe it or not, she is going to her first dance, and the girls are going together as a trio. They decided to go shopping together for dresses.

Shopping

When Jennifer and Katie were out shopping at Macy's, Jennifer got excited to find Toys 'R Us star, Geoffrey. Of course, she had Katie take a picture with him.

The bench is a little small for me, but I still sat for Aunt Jennifer.

Having Fun

My sister, Jennifer, loves to tease Katie good-naturedly. The other night she decided to wrestle Katie to the floor. Sometimes she is the clear wrestling winner, and sometimes Katie is!

I won this round over Aunt Jennifer!

Just Relaxing

Sometimes after a long day at school and an orthodontist appointment, relaxing on the couch seems just perfect!

I love to just be comfortable when I get home.

Sharing Cats

Even though Mr. Limpet loves every blanket since he came back home, he will still share with General Washington too.

This little wool blanket is the cats' favorite blanket. Jennifer ordered it from a sheep farmer in Ireland.

Thank You

Katie was so happy to get a red envelope in the mail from her cousins, Ian and Eva!

Thank you so much for thinking of me! Happy Lunar New Year to you as well!

Katie's Blanket

Katie LOVES the blanket that my sister, Debby, gave her for her birthday. She tries to keep it all to herself. However, if she forgets to put it away, the cats quickly find it and claim it as their own.

Mr. Limpet found my blanket when I went to my dance class. I guess I can share once in awhile!

Hmmm...

For a cat who hates being cold, I will never understand why Mr. Limpet ran outside in the first place.

Mr. Limpet has recently discovered laying on top of the heat vents.

Year of the Rabbit

Katie got some rabbit decorations to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

I loved these cute little figures.

They brightened up my room!

How Close Can He Get?

Since Mr. Limpet returned, he is often cuddled up on our laps when he is not buried in a blanket. We are so happy he is back to be pampered.

Usually when he is this close to us, his motor is turned on in an extra loud level.

Decorations

Katie was very excited for Lunar New Year. She decorated her room for the event this year.

I loved how the Chinese lanterns looked in my room!

Happy Lunar New Year!

One of Katie's favorite parts of Lunar New Year is the traditional red envelope that kids get with money in it.

This was a fun way to begin the Year of the Rabbit!
