Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Making a Store

Katie loves to make artwork and find little treasures and make a store to sell it. The other night at Jennifer's house, she put together a store with all sorts of artwork.

You've gotta be serious about your businesses!

A Disguise

The other night, Katie decided to wear a disguise to see if the cats would recognize her. She was pretty sure she had them fooled.

I'm pretty sure the cats thought I was a stranger since I wore glasses and a headband!

Voting Time

Katie cannot wait to start voting on her own. In the meantime, she gets plenty excited when the voter's guide arrives in the mail. She loves going through it and finding who she would vote for in each category.

My mom, sister, and I always vote together when Katie is around because it's so exciting for her. As we voted, she went through the voting guide starring the people she would vote for and x-ing out the people she would not. In the end, we let her drop the envelopes in the mailbox after we had completed and sealed our votes.

I was so glad when it was time for the big vote. The voter's guide has to suffice for me until I'm old enough to cast my own vote.

I felt good to put these envelopes in the mailbox!

A Cookie

Katie loves to buy the seasonal sugar cookies that you can decorate yourself. She doesn't care about doing anything fancy with them. She just likes to spread some frosting on top of them.

It doesn't look much like a pumpkin anymore, but it tastes delicious.

Working Together

My sister, Jennifer, had gotten Katie a Halloween foam craft from Michael's. These craft projects are supposed to be for Katie's age range, but they are HARD! Luckily for Katie, Jennifer helped save the day by doing most of the making of it.

I checked out the foam pieces while Aunt Jennifer concentrated really hard on getting everything to go together.

Using Her Voice

From the time Katie was very small, she had an interest in U.S. presidents. With that being said, she has been very disappointed in our current president's character. Because of that, she has learned ways that she might use her voice and encourage change.

Recently Katie learned about canvasing for candidates, and she really wanted to go canvasing for a local candidate. She enjoyed the whole experience until the point of getting hungry. However, she had an experience and felt good for standing up for a candidate that she believed in.

I loved handing out the fliers that taught about the candidate I supported!

Back to the Latch Hook

A couple of years ago, Katie got a Latch Hook. As much as she liked it, her enthusiasm petered out after a bit, and it was put away. She recently decided she wanted to start working on it again.

Someday I will finish this project!

Flashback

One of the girls in Katie's dance class is someone that she has danced with since they were two years old. Last week, that girl's mom sent me this picture.

I've grown up a lot in the last five years!

Fun with a Friend

Katie loves playing with her friends after school. One afternoon, she was drawing with a friend. Each of them took one side of an easel and tried to draw the other one. At the end, they had the big reveal!

We were working hard to make our pictures match each other.

After I started my portrait, my friend told me she hoped I wasn't making her head big. I knew she'd probably think it was big, but I went with what I had anyway!

I was so curious about my friend's picture. She kept telling me she was dressing me like a princess.

We both laughed when we saw each other's portraits.

I had such a good time!

My friend couldn't stop laughing at her big head!

Visiting the Pumpkin Patch

This year we chose to go to the pumpkin patch early on a Sunday morning to beat the crowds. Even though we beat the giant crowds, it was still very crowded and we had plenty of lines. Luckily, Katie always has fun anyway!

So much for beating the crowds!

The first thing I did was to see how I measured up this year. My mom and Aunt Jennifer thought I was growing too fast.

We headed to the corn maze next. We had only tried this once before, but it was so rainy the day we had tried it that all we did we slip around and we gave up.

The very best part about the corn maze is that hardly anyone was in it.

It took quite awhile to move our way through the maze, but...

...we made it to the end!

Next we went to try another new thing. We were going to launch some pumpkins!

Aunt Jennifer and I worked together to get the pumpkins to go farther. We had fun!

Then I found a third new thing. It was a hay bale maze that you could bounce through!

It was pretty fun!

While my mom talked to some people she knew, I climbed the hay bale pyramid.

I made it to the top!

After that, I went through the traditional hay bale maze.

Aunt Jennifer timed me as I ran through it!

I made it through in a quick amount of time!

Before we went to the pumpkin patch, we went to visit the animals.

I always love the goats.

Of course we always have to wash our hands good after touching the animals.

It was finally time to take our hayride to the pumpkin patch!

There's always lots to look at on the way.

I sat close to Aunt Jennifer!

I was looking for three perfect pumpkins to make a family...a big one, a medium one, and a small one.

I found my medium pumpkin right away.

A short time later, I found the large one that I wanted, but...

...I had to trade it for this large one because I found holes in the first one.

After finding the small one, I took some time to pose.

I tried several different poses.

How's this one?

The pumpkins went on and on!

We walked our pumpkins back in a wheelbarrow, and it was time to wash them!

I was excited to wash them, but our pump didn't work very well. It took some of the fun out, but we got them clean enough.

Before we headed home, we had our apple cider and hot chocolate.

It was such a fun day!

Ready for a Picture

Unlike me, Katie always just knows how to pose for a picture. For some reason on this day, I had asked Katie if I could take her picture, and as soon as I asked, this is how she sat without being asked.

I had to get ready for me picture!

Imaginative Play

Katie has some long school days, so she really appreciates her time to play when she's at home. I never get tired of seeing her imagination.

I love my Shopkins and Shoppies!
