More Fun with the Robot

After Katie figured out more with her robot, Roosevelt, she made it move in the living room towards the dogs and talk to them. They didn't quite know what to make of it!

The more Sadie heard Roosevelt say her name, the faster she chewed on her bone!

A Robot

For Christmas, I got Katie and my sister, Jennifer, a robot that you can code to do different things. This past weekend, they decided to take it out of the box and use it. The first step was to name the robot. Katie knew she wanted a presidential name, so she named him Roosevelt. Then they got to work. Katie was a pro!

I thought Roosevelt was cute! 

You have to control Roosevelt through an app. 

Aunt Jennifer was stuck, so I took over and quickly figured it out!

It didn't take long for Roosevelt to be moving all over the house!

A Girl Who Loves Her Cats

Katie loves spending time with the cats!

Both cats love to share blankets with me! 

General Washington is so soft! He's perfect for hugging! 

Mr. Limpet found another one of my blankets! 

He loves to get his chin scratched!

Telling Stories Through Pictures

When Katie writes stories, she most often writes stories with words and illustrations, but she also likes to write stories through only pictures too. When she does that, she gladly provides the whole story with details!

I always have a pile of paper somewhere nearby!

Back at Jennifer's

Being back at Jennifer's means designing new clothes!

It's always fun to try to do different things with the same pieces of material!

Pure Joy

I can't even begin to explain how much Katie loves playing with her friends after school!

You might catch us doing gymnastics in the room, or... 

...creating other types of fun!

I have the best friends in the world! 

Patient Girl

On most days, Katie stays at school with me until I go home. She is always so patient.

When my friends aren't around, I always find a way to keep myself busy - writing stories is always a favorite!

A Fashion Designer

Katie was so excited the other night to teach my mom all about her fashion designing app.

I love to teach Grandma new things!

Helping Out

We were having some of next year kindergarten students join us for a lesson after school, and Katie couldn't wait to help! As soon as she hears that these lessons are happening, she starts planning fun things to do.

I picked out a book that I was able to read from for part of the lesson!

I love little kids!

Just Relaxing

After a busy day, Katie sometimes just likes to relax a bit with her Kindle. Her way of relaxing looks different than mine.

At the end of the day, you've just got to sit in a way that makes you comfortable.

Rock Tumbling - Part 2

After Katie's rock tumbler finished the first round of tumbling, we were able to open up the container, rinse the rocks, and put in some new grit for round two.

When we opened the tumbler up, the water looked pretty muddy! 

We had to strain the water and clean the rocks. 

I was shocked at how much smoother the rocks already were. 

We put the clean rocks back in the tumbler and added the next round of grit. 

This grit was smaller than the last packet. 

It was time to attach the lid again.

A Fashion Designer

A little while ago, my sister, Jennifer, bought Katie one of her new favorite things. It was a fashion designing kit that came with a little mannequin, fabric, and accessories that designers might need. She has had so much fun designing outfits and have fashion shows with them!

I loved being able to make different fashions! 

Aunt Jennifer showed me how to use the straight pins to hold the fabric in place. 

I played with the different fabric to see which ones looked good together. 

I loved how each one looked different! 

Some of my dresses were long and some were short. 

We ended up assigning each design to different collections!

Another Favorite Book Series

Katie loves the Narwhal series of books. She loves to share them with everyone!

Grandma loves books, so I had to share this one with her!

We both thought it was funny! We read it again and again!

Big Dog

Sometimes when Katie is playing with Sadie, Sadie looks bigger than she does.

You can't have any of this, Sadie!

Looks Comfortable

Katie has a hard time going by any chairs for sale without trying them out.

My mom said we were in a hurry, but I had time to try out the chairs!

The Rock Tumbler

Katie got a rock tumbler from Garyldine and Jim this Christmas, and she absolutely couldn't wait to start using it. We had to learn how to use it together, and we discovered that there are four rounds to polishing rocks.

The first thing I had to do was to wash the rocks that I had. 

I moved them to the towel to get them dry. 

When they were all clean, I got to add them to the tumbler. 

I still had extra space in the tumbler, so I added the rest of the rocks. 

This is what my rocks looked like before any tumbling. 

Next, I had to add some "grit" to rub against the rocks and smooth out their edges. 

The grit was powdery. 

Then we added water, and put the tumbler on the machine that turns it. 

 I watched it tumble for awhile, but then I left it to do it's thing for five days.

When it got done, I would have to go through three more rounds of grit.

I couldn't wait to see what they looked like.

Doll Time

To balance out the magazine creating, Katie also took plenty of time to play with her dolls!

There are so many stories that I can act out with my dolls!

Always Busy

Even though Katie had lots of new toys after Christmas, she'd still take time with paper, pen, and creativity. On this night, she was making her own magazine.

I love magazines, so... 

...why not make my own? 

I did some of the activity pages and let my mom do some.

A Trip to the Museum

While Katie was still on her winter break, she was able to go to the science museum with Kai and his family. She had such a good time!

I like to do anything with Kai! 

Kai's dad helped me get my bracelet on when we got there. 

Then it was time to play. 

We built some fun things together! 

The museum has activities that make us think, but... 

...it feels like playful learning. 

With this activity, we got to work on our balance skills. 

We didn't quite have it balanced yet! 

Then we got ready for some science experiments that required eye wear! 

We did some measuring, and... 

...some mixing. 

I like to examine everything carefully. 

This area was so much fun! 

In this section, Kai and I posed in different way, and... 

...took pictures of each pose. 

After several poses,... 

...our pictures were turned into a short movie.
