Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

A New, Favorite Treat

Ever since Katie helped me make dinner one time that included green peppers, she has craved peppers - green, orange, yellow, and red. She begs for them at the store, and when she sees a plate of cut up peppers, you would think it was candy. "Oh boy! Oh boy! Peppers!"

I love peppers!

Cooking Tops

Katie had me sitting at her table with Giraffe one morning, and she tried on some different "cooking hats." I guess she didn't want to use the real chef's hat that came with her kitchen.

I thought it might be fun to cook in a tiara.

I just had another idea for what I should wear.

Maybe I should wear a hat.

I got my favorite summer hat! My mom told me to smile. When I saw the camera, I smiled and squinted my eyes tight. I thought I was very funny.

I've gotta get back to my cooking now.

Watching the Birds

Katie was excited one early morning to find a flock of birds behind our house. She watched them for a long time. She loved to watch them pecking the ground for food and flying from tree to tree.

I thought all of the birds were gone, but I found some!

I was counting birds as I saw them.

There's one up there in that tree!

Look, Giraffe! Don't you love to see birds again? Is Spring almost here?

A New Purse

One of the toys Katie got when she went to the dentist was a new purse. She loves her new purse and keeps it in a place of honor when she's not using it.

I love my purse!

It matches the flowers in my kitchen, so I hung it up there.

Feeding the Pets

I came home from work one day, and I laughed as I looked at the pet water bowl. Katie had turned the water into soup with her kitchen supplies. I told my mom that Katie had been busy playing in the water. She said, "Yeah, Jennifer was laughing at her earlier."

Since everyone had thought it was funny, I left the bowl as it was. When Jennifer got home, she laughed when she saw the bowl. I said I thought she had seen it earlier. It turns out that Katie had been dipping the food in the water and taking it out. It wasn't until later that the soup was created. Jennifer helped Katie clean out the water dish, so the pets could have access to water again.

I made a special treat for Chloe and Bingle.

A Trip to the Dentist

I first started taking Katie to the dentist when she was about a year old. She had many, many "happy visits," where she got to know the dentists and the dentist office, but she never opened her mouth to let any of the dentists look inside. Recently, Katie has decided to trust the very nice dentists to follow their directions and let them take care of her teeth. Recently, she went in for a minor routine, and she did a great job. It helped that they let her watch Tinkerbell while they worked on her teeth. She did such a good job that the dentist let her choose six toys as she left.

I'm fine as long as my mom holds my hand. It helps to watch a movie in my glasses!

My teeth look beautiful. I'm just left with a mark on my nose from my movie player.

My dentist gave me a crown and some toys for being good.

A Dot

Katie likes to have clean hands. It's something we definitely have in common! She was hanging out with my mom and Garyldine one day when she accidentally got a dot on her finger from her pen. She wasn't happy.

Look at my thumb!

I can't believe it's dirty.

How do I go on?

It Fits!

After her bath one night, Katie looked in her closet and found an outfit Garyldine had gotten her last summer. It was a little too big last summer, but it now fit. Katie was more than excited because: 1. It has a tutu skirt. 2. It had a flamingo on the shirt. 3. It gave her a reason to put on her ballet slippers and twirl.

This was the first time I saw my outfit while I was wearing it. I loved it!

When I got downstairs, I got my step stool, so I could be taller.

I tried to twirl on the step stool, but I almost fell off of it!

It was safer to get off and dance on the floor.

A New Train

We ordered take out for dinner one night. Katie was more impressed with the bag it came in then her food. She couldn't wait to get into her "new train."

Choo choo!

Finding a Hat

After Christmas, I took the time to clean Katie's room and organize it. She was excited to find the hat that Aunt Jennifer had gotten her in Wisconsin last year. She was excited to put it on and show everyone again.

I love to be a Cheesehead!

The Worries of a 3-Year Old

A few days after we took our Christmas tree down, we were at the dinner table when Katie suddenly looked very sad. We asked her what was wrong, and she said, "The Christmas tree is hungry!" When we asked her what Christmas trees ate, she quickly said, "Candy canes!" My mom assured her that she packed candy canes in the box with the Christmas tree, so it wouldn't be hungry until next year. Katie's smile rapidly returned and she went back to her dinner.

I didn't want the tree to go hungry!

Sharing with Pooh Bear

The first day Katie had worn some of her new bows from Aunt Debby, she was very proud of them. After wearing them all day, she decided to share the cuteness with Winnie the Pooh.

I loved wearing my new bows.

They were so curly and pretty.

I knew Winnie the Pooh would look great in them.

Strike a Pose

In contrast to the pictures on the last post, Katie had a night that she loved the camera. She came up with lots of different poses to show us her robe.

Not Another Picture

Katie is usually pretty good when she sees the camera come out of its case. It's been a big part of her life for a long time now. Lately, she has loved to show off her different poses while the camera clicks. However, she still has days where the camera should just go away.

Seriously? The camera is out again?

You'll have to get a picture of me in my pretend mask.

I guess it has to come to this.

Garyldine to the Rescue

Katie has developed a strong fondness for The Little Mermaid over the last few months. At Christmas, she received a Little Mermaid bath toy, and she was thrilled. Up to that point, she would swirl her washcloth in the tub, and the swirling washcloth was Ariel. She played with her new toy in and out of the bathtub.

Katie had only had her toy a short time when she got very sad. Ariel's hair had come off the top of her head. Katie wasn't mad. She was sad. Every time anyone mentioned Ariel, the sad look came onto her face. I told Katie I would get some glue, but I didn't have any then. Her response was, "How about Garyldine? Garyldine has glue."

When my mom went to see Garyldine, she took Ariel and the unattached hair, and Garyldine fixed up the mermaid with waterproof super glue. When Katie saw her toy again, she was a very happy little girl.

I was really sad when Ariel's hair came off.

She wasn't as beautiful as usual.

Garyldine fixed her!

Garyldine's my hero!
