Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Halloween

Like so many other things, Halloween celebrations are going to be different this year. One thing was the same though! Katie got to celebrate Halloween in her dance class when she was given a bag of goodies at the end of class.

It makes me happy right now when anything feels normal. It felt good to sort of have a Halloween celebration with the three other kids in my class!

Mailbox Happiness

It always makes Katie so happy to find a new issue of her magazine in the mailbox. She always reads it cover to cover!

I always end up learning a lot about all kinds of animals in my magazine!

Coordination

I looked over at the couch, and I noticed that Katie and General Washington made a good pair. They were very coordinated!

We go together like two peas in a pod!

One More Thing

Before we left the pumpkin patch, we walked over to the hay pyramid. Katie chose not to climb to the top because she wanted to respect the space of others. She's a pretty thoughtful girl!

The hay pyramid seemed smaller this year, or am I just taller?

Time for Measuring

After the corn maze, of course we had to find the measuring spot. Katie has been measuring herself at this spot most every year since she was one or two. She's getting so tall!

I am getting close to Aunt Jennifer's height!

The Corn Maze

After we picked out our pumpkins, Jennifer and Katie went through the corn maze while I stayed with the pumpkins.

We got a map of the maze when we entered, but it was hard to follow!

We walked and walked and walked and finally found a way out - even if it was back at the entrance and not at the exit. We were just glad to get out!

Choosing Pumpkins

My sister, Jennifer, and I decided to take Katie to the pumpkin patch this year to try to hold onto some traditions during this strange time. The pumpkin patch that we go to was limiting the number of people at any time by requiring reservations. Masks were also required. Since not everyone was observing the mask rule and social distancing, we decided to create our own space. Instead of taking the hay ride, we walked to the pumpkin fields, and we brought bags to carry the pumpkins in instead of using the wheelbarrows. It made us feel better, and we still had fun.

We could choose three pumpkins since we had three people.

Aunt Jennifer and my mom let me choose all three.

I found the first one first. I held the bag and...

...Aunt Jennifer put it in the bag!

We tried to stay far away from others, but I kept my mask on anyway.

I walked through several of the fields looking for the perfect pumpkins.

I wanted a white pumpkin, but didn't find one.

Here was a perfect one that I found! Haha!

At this point, I had chosen a small pumpkin and a medium pumpkin. Now I needed a big one.

My mom was trying to help by pointing with her feet. I ended up choosing one that was more round than oblong though.

Wavy Hair

Katie's favorite part of wearing braids through the day is taking them out at night and having wavy hair.

It always feels fun to have something other than straight hair.

Thinking about Politics

Katie decided to watch the political debate last night and had a lot of thoughts to share throughout.

I know which one I respect and would put in a role of leadership. Now if I could only vote!

Katie and the Computer

With school online, Katie spends a lot of time with the computer. She has a much better attitude about being on the computer than I find myself having. I need to learn from her.

I can still have a smile at the end of my school day!

Another Magic Trick

The next trick Katie had was making a penny disappear.

I was ready to show how to make a penny disappear.

Bet you don't know where the penny went!

You might think I'm holding it, but...

...nope! It disappeared!

Learning a Card Trick

Katie chose to read a magic book for her school reading time and then spent the evening practicing her new card trick.

It's fun to learn new tricks!

Prime Day

When Amazon had their Prime Day Sale, I found some Play-Doh slime that I bought for my class. I had extra, so I gave some to Katie.

I stuck the slime all over my hand, and it felt cold and wet!

I left it on for a bit and then removed it all.

Best Friends

Katie and General Washington love each other and enjoy every minute together.

General Washington loves to wrap his tail around me while I pet him!

An Evening for TV

Katie is still working her way through the seasons of Full House and loving every minute of it.

Sometimes you've just got to cuddle up in a blanket and watch a favorite show!

Practicing the Facts

Part of Katie's school day is working on her math facts. We were happily surprised to find her flash cards to help with the process.

Aunt Jennifer likes to practice some of these with me every day!

The Toy Dog

Katie loves the toy dog she got last Christmas. She had it out and turned it on, so it would walk toward and bark at Bingle. She wanted to know how Bingle would react, but she didn't give it much thought.

It's coming towards you, Bingle!

Time for Bingle

Bingle may be getting up in years, but she still loves getting attention!

Bingle sleeps a lot of the day, but likes getting her head scratched when she's not sleeping.

Flu Shot Season

As much as Katie didn't want to go, it was time for getting her annual flu shot. She is brave while she gets the shot, but she usually makes it pretty clear that she doesn't like it.

I don't enjoy getting poked with needles!

Always a Favorite

One of Katie's favorite authors from the time she was small was Mo Willems. To this day, she still appreciates his humor!

My mom bought this book for her classroom, but I enjoy it until she takes it there!

Sunday Mornings

Sunday mornings are time for the second cat!

General Washington needs his time with me too!

Saturday, October 10, 2020

Saturday Mornings

Saturday mornings are for relaxing and spending time with the cats!

Mr. Limpet loves to be close, especially if there is a blanket nearby!

Exciting Times

Katie had gone over to my sister's house for her school day, and she saw that our voter's pamphlet had arrived in the mail. She was so excited that Jennifer compared it to the old days of when our Christmas catalogue would arrive and we would go through it over and over. Katie went through the pamphlet three times the first morning of having it, looking for the candidates that she would vote for if she was old enough.

It was very important to me to find the candidates that I knew!

You should always know what the candidates believe in!

I liked to share what I learned as I read it!

Elections are always exciting! I can't wait to vote!

Enjoying Grandma's Gift

One of the gifts that my mom got for her birthday was a set of dominoes. As soon as she could, Katie opened the package and started playing with them!

First, I tried to build a line of dominoes, but they tumbled over pretty quickly.

Next I started building a tower as tall as I could!

A Gift

We usually just get my mom some presents that are from all of us, but Katie specifically wanted to get my mom a book for her birthday. She was so excited to choose a book by an author that my mom loves.

I knew that Grandma would like a book!

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

Katie was so happy when it was my mom's birthday. She loves any reason to celebrate!

Happy birthday, Grandma!

More Virtual Reality

When Katie was at my sister's house, she got into some more virtual reality.

After I spent time in the Jaws virtual reality scene, I let Aunt Jennifer try it!

A Girl and Her Cat

What looks happier than a girl and her cat?

There's nothing like snuggling up with your warm cat on a cool morning!

Cute Ballerinas

It always makes me so happy when friends share old pictures of Katie with me. This picture was shared with Katie's dancing friend's mom. I love that they have been friends since they were two.

I am still friends with two of the other girls in this class. It also made me so happy to have another picture of Ms. Moriah. I really miss her!

Twisty Girl

I think Katie needs a super hero name like Twisty Girl.

It's just another evening of stretches!

Clean Air

After the smoke finally cleared out of the air, Katie's allergies started bothering her a lot. My sister was nice enough to surprise us with an air purifier to see if it would help.

Thank you, Aunt Jennifer! I love our clean air!
