Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Musical Girl

Katie still loves music of any sort. One particularly musical day, Katie began by playing the recorder she got for Halloween. She isn't able to play different notes yet on her recorder, but she loves to play, "Jingle Bells" on it. It's a one-note song with the rhythm of jingle bells.

As she was playing, she started something new, which made us laugh.  When she plays "Jingle Bells," she likes us to either sing along or play a different instrument with her. She decided to be the conductor of our little band. She started tapping her foot and saying, "1, 2…1, 2, 3, 4," as a way to get us to all begin together. Of course, as soon as I tried to tape it, she didn't want to continue. With a little prompting, I got a short video of an example, but you'll notice that she didn't finish the song as soon as she saw the video.

Later in the day, Katie decided to create a marching band with Aunt Jennifer. She decided to combine her African drum and her triangle stick for her instrument.

Leading the Band

I love my "whistle."

Practicing Before the Marching Band Parade

This drum makes a different noise when I don't use my hands.

C'mon, Aunt Jennifer. Ring those bells!
