Red Thread...

There is an ancient Chinese belief which states that there is an invisible red thread that connects each of us to all of the individuals who have been, currently are, and will in the future be important to us in our lives.

This red thread can stretch, twist, and bend… but will never break.

Garyldine, the Hero

We left Vancouver early on Sunday morning. We pulled out of the parking garage, and we had our GPS set to get us home, but when we left the parking garage, the GPS was still waiting for a signal. Instead of waiting for the signal, Jennifer and I guessed our way out of Vancouver. In doing so, we took a lengthy tour through some of the outskirts of the city, but the important thing was that we finally got on the right road. Our detour gave our passengers a chance to catch up on their sleep anyway.

As we approached the border crossing, the Canadian lady's warning was echoing in our heads. "They may want to verify Katie's citizenship on the way back into the United States." I was ready to camp out  somewhere with Katie while we waited for everyone else to get home and return to Canada with the original papers. However, the copies of her papers weren't questioned at all as we returned home. Thank goodness!

We continued on our way home until lunch time. We decided to stop and McDonald's and grab something quick for lunch and stretch our legs a little. Jennifer and I thought it might be fun to eat in the Playland room. Katie had never played on one of those structures, and we thought she might like it. She ate and happily went on the structure. Katie isn't very adventurous when it comes to climbing high, but she stayed on the low level and found her way out. I went over to get her ready for the car, and she asked to play a little longer. What could it hurt?

Katie went back in the structure and found a friend that she followed up to the second level of the structure. She was chatting up a storm and giggling as she followed. The girls ended up in this spaceship type structure, where Katie popped up in the window and waved at us.

Pretty soon I saw her friend come down the slide, but there was no Katie behind. We waited. We called Katie. We waited some more. We knocked on the wall of the spaceship. No Katie. Finally, Garyldine put on the superhero cape and decided to go after Katie.

First, Garyldine tried to get to her by climbing up the slide. Unfortunately, she chose the slide with no climbing pieces inside, so she would step and slide down, step and slide down until she gave up. She was about to go up a second slide when Jennifer pointed out that she could just climb up the steps.

Since that sounded easier, Garyldine headed up the steps and soon realized she was lost in the structure. Meanwhile, Katie poked her head up in the window again and was scared and in tears because she didn't know how to get down. When Garyldine discovered she didn't know how to get to Katie, she found a little boy, so she could ask him directions. He only responded to her question by growling at her like an angry bear. She found another kid who gave her directions in words, but his directions were wrong and she was still lost.

While Garyldine was lost and trying to find her way to a crying Katie, a man who felt sorry for us sent his ten-year old daughter after Katie to lead her out. Luckily, Katie and Garyldine both made it out. Katie was left with a tear stained face and dirty socks, and Garyldine was left with a scraped and bruised knee, a new phobia of little boys who growl at her, and what felt like dirty socks. We were all thankful or our hero, Garyldine, for braving the McDonald's Playland to rescue Katie. Our quick stop for a lunch turned into an hour-long lunch, but we were all safe and headed back home with some funny memories of Garyldine, the Hero.

We all caught up on our sleep while Aunt Jennifer and my mom tried to find their way out of Vancouver.

They found some interesting sights while we slept.

When we stopped for lunch, I followed my new friend up the play structure.

When I couldn't find my way out, Garyldine came after me. She tried to go up this slide, but she kept slipping down.

Then she went after me by climbing up the steps. She found out that it was easy to get lost. Luckily we both made it out! Thanks for rescuing me!
